WOMEN’S TENNIS SET TO BEGIN FALL COMPETITIONS SEPT. 8
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s tennis team announced its fall season schedule Friday, featuring three tournaments to prepare the squad for the spring dual match season.
The Vaqueros are set to open the fall season Sept. 8-10 at the Islander Open in Corpus Christi. They’ll head to the highly competitive Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals hosted at Baylor’s facilities in Waco from Oct. 12-15. UTRGV closes the fall competition season Oct. 27-29 in San Antonio at the UIW Cardinal Classic.
“We are very excited to work through things in the fall and see how good we can get before spring rolls around,” women’s tennis head coach West Nott said. “The Islander Open will have a deep field of players from all the top mid-major programs in Texas. It’s a great first test to see where everyone is after a summer of training and one week of team practice. The ITA Regionals will feature all the Power Five programs along with the elite mid-major schools in Texas. The opportunity to have a month of intense practices sharpening our skills will bring out the best version of ourselves at that tournament. We’ll see some teams we’ll compete against in the spring at the UIW Cardinal Classic. It will be a great final test for the fall to see where we did well or what we need to shore up before January rolls around.”
Additionally, UTRGV’s women’s and men’s tennis programs will be holding their second Pro-Am Fundraiser at the Orville Cox Tennis Center on Nov. 4. Registration information will be available at a later date.
