UTRGV WOMEN’S SOCCER ADDS ARNDIS EGGERTSDOTTIR FOR SPRING 2024

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s soccer team announced on Wednesday the addition of midfielder/defender Arndís Eggertsdóttir to the 2024 spring roster.

“I felt we had a really good season with a lot of young players but wanted to bring in one or two transfers,” UTRGV Head Coach Mark Foster said. “We wanted to bring some more maturity to the group and Arndís will do that for us. She has played a lot of minutes at a good level in Conference USA, and I think she will fit in well. She brings a good mindset on and off the field so she will do very well in the classroom and brings a lot of experience and ability for us at center back and midfield if we need to. She is game ready, and we are excited we are getting her for the spring. Arndís is another exciting signing for us.”

Eggertsdóttir, who is from Arkanes, Iceland, will join the Vaqueros this spring to begin workouts and practice. Eggertsdóttir comes to the program after spending two seasons at Jacksonville State. This past season as a sophomore, Eggertsdóttir played in all 17 matches while making 15 starts and played in 1,351 minutes.

As a freshman, Eggertsdóttir played in eight matches while making three starts.

Prior to her time at Jacksonville State, Eggertsdóttir attended Fiolbrautaskoli Vesturlands while playing at the club level. Eggertsdóttir was named her team’s best player on her U17 club in 2019 and the most improved player for her U17 and U15 teams in 2017 and 2018.

Eggertsdóttir also helped her club team to the 2019 Rey Cup Championship.

“I chose UTRGV because of the great coaching staff and the amazing opportunity to grow both as a player and a person while competing at a high level,” Eggertsdóttir said. “I am very grateful and can’t wait to get started!”

Eggertsdóttir joins Allie Cifuentes, Krystin Moore, and Jordan Matthews as part of this year’s signing class.
