Lady Bobcats stretch winning streak to nine with win over Brownsville Lady Raiders

The Lady Bobcats had an early meeting at home with Brownsville Rivera’s Lady Raiders, and they quickly took control.

After picking up any easy bucket with a quick layup made by Kimora Fagan the Lady Bobcats pounced to 14-3 lead early in the first quarter.

Senior trio Emily Carranco, Kimora Fagan and Madison Martinez’s recipe for success continues to lift the Lady Bobcats (24-2) to another big win. At home on Wednesday they defeated the Lady Raiders 68-38.

“Emily, Kimora and Madison are four year varsity players,” Head Coach J.D. Salinas said. “They are the driving force of our program. They know our system, they know what we want, they know our philosophy and we rely heavily on them. Everybody else does a really great job.”

Scoring for the Lady Bobcats were Emily Carranco, 29; Fagan, 25; Martinez, 14.

Friday they host Mission High with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Their in your face defense caused the Lady Raiders to make turnovers as they crossed mid-court, and the Lady Bobcats were able to transition back into their offense and continued to finish at the basket. 

By the second quarter the Lady Bobcats were holding a comfortable 23-8 lead.

Senior Point Guard Madison Martinez filled in a three-pointer to start another run heading into the half with a commanding lead.

Seniors Emily Carranco hit 19 first half points, and Kimora Fagan contributed 14 first half points to lift the Lady Bobcats to a 35-18 halftime lead over Brownsville Rivera.

To open the second half the Bobcats hit two more shots from the three-point line. Kimora banked one in from the top of the key, and another one from Martinez to push the lead to 43-21.

Two minutes into the third quarter the Lady Bobcats were holding on to a 53-23 lead.

Moments later Martinez knocked down another 3-ball that splashed through the rim hitting nothing but net.

Martinez would score another thee to finish off a scoring run and lift the Lady Bobcats to a 33-point lead over the Lady Raiders and the win.

The Lady Bobcats are riding a nine game wining steak heading into their 7:30 p.m. contest with Mission High on Jan. 5.
