Vela Entertains Rio Grande City
(Edinburg, Texas)-The Edinburg Vela Sabercats (4-1, 1-1) returns to field after taking a week off to meet the Rio Grande City Rattlers (3-2, 1-1) at Richard Flores Stadium tonight in Edinburg. So, what’s at stake? A University Interscholastic League playoff spot for 2022.
The Rattlers are not tonight’s favorite, as most fans will agreed. But, the Rattlers could find a way to spoil Vela’s return after losing to PSJA North 28-21 two weeks ago. If Rattlers head coach Jesus Lozano and his staff watched what the Raiders did to contain Vela, via game film, then the Rattlers could walk away with one of the biggest upsets in Rio Grande Valley football history. But, that’s a big “if”.
The Rattlers run the ball. And they will run the ball all night long. As for the Sabercats, defensively, this could be another test to stop a running team. The PSJA North Raiders rushed for almost 300-yards against the Vela defense in their win. (HSSMImages/Ruiz)
