Burnel Falls in Second Round at ITA Men’s All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis senior Emilien Burnel went 1-1 on Saturday in the pre-qualifying draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men’s All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa.

Burnel got his day started with a resounding 6-3, 6-4 victory over Furman University’s Elijah Poritzky to move on to the Round of 128. He fell 6-2, 6-1 in the second round to Michigan State’s Luke Baylis, ending his run at the All-American tournament. He was the first UTRGV student-athlete to make the competitive tournament since 2018.

Burnel and the Vaqueros will be back in action Oct. 19-24 at the ITA Texas Regional in Fort Worth.
