UTRGV WOMEN’S SOCCER STARTS SIGNING PERIOD WITH THREE IN-STATE ADDITIONS

November 20, 2023

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s soccer team announced on Monday the additions of midfielder Allie Cifuentes, forward Krystin Moore, and forward Jordan Matthews for the 2024-25 academic season.

“We are delighted to kick off the signing period with three quality in-state signings,” UTRGV Head Coach Mark Fostersaid. “All three girls will be big assets to us on and off the field as we look to continue building our culture and take the program to new heights.”

Cifuentes comes to the program from Forney, Texas where she is currently attending Forney High School. Cifuentes was named to the First Team All-Region as a junior and Second Team All-District as a sophomore.

Cifuentes plays her club soccer with the Dallas Texans and is an attacking midfielder. Cifuentes is a creative midfielder who can open up opposition defenses with her passing ability and she works hard without the ball so she will fit into the style of play that the Vaqueros are trying to create.

“I chose UTRGV because the girls immediately made me feel included and at home,” Cifuentes said. “I felt the compassion and determination each player brought to the team during the home opener, and I know I will thrive in such a supporting, hardworking, and determined environment at UTRGV.”

Moore comes to the program from Richmond, Texas where she currently attends George Ranch High School and has lettered three years in soccer. Moore is a very athletic and naturally left-footed forward that will bring great balance to the left side for the Vaqueros. Moore is very good in 1-v-1 situations, likes to get crosses in the box, and is not afraid to take shots.

Moore plays her club soccer with Rise Soccer Club in Houston.

“The reasons why I chose UTRGV is how the school made me feel,” Moore said. “It feels like a home and a place where I can grow and develop academically and athletically. As well as the goals the coaching staff at UTRGV have in mind with turning the program around led me to want to become a part of that change happening and to leave an impact.”

Matthews comes to the program from San Antonio, Texas where she currently attends Taft High School. Matthews helped her team to the Class 6A Regional Semifinals last season and was a team captain.

As a sophomore, Matthews led her team with 27 goals while leading them to the regional tournament. Matthews is a fast and athletic forward that can play on the left, right or through the middle of the pitch. Matthews is very good at getting behind opposition defenses and is a natural goal score, which will be a tremendous asset to the team.

“I chose UTRGV because from my very first visit I could tell their culture was one that I really wanted to be a part of,” Matthews said. “I felt they would value me as a person just as much as they valued me as an athlete. I was also very excited about all the great things happening on campus with all the amazing new facilities and excitement around getting a brand-new Division I football team.”

The UTRGV coaching staff has been working hard on the recruiting trail and will be looking f to adding more quality additions in the coming months.
