UTRGV MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS 7-FOOTER SALIOU SEYE FOR 2023-24

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt Figger announced on Tuesday the signing of 7-0 center Saliou Seye for the 2023-24 season.

As a freshman at Ellsworth Community College in 2022-23, Seye averaged 5.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 30 games (25 starts) while shooting 58.6% from the field in 17.2 minutes per game. He reached double-figures in scoring five times and rebounding four times, including a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds against North Central Missouri College on Nov. 15. He scored a career-high 12 points and blocked a career-high four shots against Rochester Community and Technical College on Nov. 12, and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against Iowa Central Community College on March 4.

Originally from Senegal, Seye played at Loyalty College Prep in North Richland Hills after graduating from W.T. White High School in Dallas.

“Saliou is a 7-foot, extremely athletic, long shot blocker,” Figger said. “He’s very versatile and has some small forward skills in him. He can shoot 3’s and handle the ball well. He can play multiple position and I love that he can move and get off the floor.”

Seye joins 6-5 guard JJ Howard, 6-10 forward David Oyona, 6-1 guard Elijah Elliott, and 5-10 guard DeAnthony Tipler, and 6-8 guard Hasan Abdul-Hakim as part of the 2023-24 recruiting class.
