UTRGV BASEBALL EARNS ABCA TEAM ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team learned on Wednesday that it earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, by posting a 2023-24 team grade point average (GPA) of 3.24.

To earn the award, teams must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2023-24 academic year.

UTRGV is the only program in the UT System, one of six Division I programs in Texas, and 129 in NCAA Division I to earn the honor. In total, more than 470 collegiate programs at all levels earned the honor.

The ABCA has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation’s oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA’s awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/ATEC Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
