EDINBURG — Cristian Faz made it happen for himself, and he had his family and team along side him all the way to his college basketball signing day on a hot afternoon.

On Wednesday in the Edinburg North High Library he announced and signed his Letter of Intent to take his talent to represent Dallas North Lake College and play for its Junior College Division III championship team and further his education.

“It’s definitely been a goal of mine to go to the next level,” Faz said. “I’m just ready to go and put in the work.”

Faz was on fire all season on the basketball court and led the Edinburg North Cougars to a 31-6A Championship.

He knocked down big shots, finished swoping reverse layups, got buckets from downtown, chased down the rock and applied his cross over dribble and spin move with defenders in his face for two.

Let’s not forget to mention, his dribble side step jumpshot with dialed in accuracy that burned defenders with every time he stepped on to the court.

He made his job look easy, and let his skills do the talking.

“He’s a good athlete and he did a good job representing our program,” said Damian Gonzales, Edinburg North Athletic Director. “Congratulations to you and we wish you the best of luck to your future. Let this be a great example that you can accomplish anything.”

Faz reached the 1,000 points mark his senior season and averaged 13 points a game with two rebounds, one assist and steal per game. He racked up a list off accomplishments on the court including a two time All City selection, two time first team All District, two time All Valley Showcase, first team All Valley.

“I’m going to try and be the best player that I can be and make an impact on the team right away,” Faz said about joining his college team. “This is very exciting and I’m ready to get to work already.”

Faz will join two of his fellow Amateur Athletic Union teamates at North Lake who he traveled with around the country playing for the McAllen Ballers traveling basketball team. Of those are Mercedes High’s David Clower, who also signed his Letter of Intent on Wednesday, and Harlingen High’s Ryan Sanchez who announced on Facebook recently he was taking his talent to join the North Lake Blazers.
