We caught up with Junior Small Forward Richard Molina to ask him about the basketball season and his game. Here’s what he had to say in the Meet the Cougars Q&A:
Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a varsity basketball player, and why?
A: When I was a 8th grader my Dad took me to watch a high school basketball game and the game was so exciting. I knew I wanted to play one day.
Q: What is your fondest memory of your experience on the team this season?
A: When we went out to eat at Wingstop for a team dinner, it was the best cause we all had a good time.

Q: How excited are you about being a member of the basketball team?
A: I’m very excited because I know it’s a blessing to get the opportunity to play for this team.
Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?
A: I prepared by playing in the summer leagues for Mcallen and Edinburg. I would also entered local tournaments with the team to get better.
Q: Who has influenced your play style the most?
A: Kevin Durant
Q: Who’s your favorite professional basketball player?
A: Kawhi Leonard
Q: Who’s the greatest basketball player of all time?
A: Michael Jordan
Q: What drew you to play basketball over other sports?
A: My father was a basketball player, and I wanted to be just like him.
Q: What aspect of your game comes easy to you?
A: Defense because it’s all effort.
Q: What advice has the coach given you that you’ll always remember?
A: You can’t coach effort.
Q: If you could play any basketball player 1v1 who would it be?
A: Andre Drummond
Q: Is there a particular significance to your jersey number?
A: I wanted to be different and I thought 0 was a different number.
Q: What is the worst practice you have ever endured?
A: When we run 17s and liners.
Q: What tips would you give to someone going out for basketball?
A: Do not give up. The sport is going to give you a lot of ups and downs but just stick to it.
Q: What team is considered your biggest rival, and why?
A: Edinburg High School because our school has always been their rival since it was established.
Q: What is your most memorable shot?
A: When I hit my first 3 pointer in a game.
Q: What is your favorite game day hype song?
A: Pstyle 2 by Lil Mugo
Q: Who would you pick as your all time greatest starting five?
A: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaq, and Ervin “Magic” Johnson.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Alfredo
