Q&A: Eliab Alvarez, UNITED 956 DEFENDER

EDINBURG — We had caught up with Eliab Alvarez who recently helped area soccer team United 956 to the US Soccer Club’s 2024 National Championship. Here is what he had to say about his recent success on the field.

A: Center Defensive Mid (CDM)
Q: When did you know you wanted to play soccer, and how hard did work you to get to the level you are at now?
A: Almost every day with my sister I would go out for runs in the morning, keeping active on the days we didn’t have practice.
Q: What was it like for you traveling the country and winning it all?
A: Traveling with the team was a great experience considering that everyone in our team also had their eyes on the prize. While we all had fun in the times we were together we all were focused on our objective and we all felt super great full that our hard word payed off.
Q: What was your biggest challenge on the way to the championship?
A: I think as a team the biggest challenge was the recovery. We would have multiple practices throughout the week but in order to stay healthy I would have to be careful with my body watching what I eat sleeping well etc.
Q: Tell us what you were feeling and thinking about heading into the championship game?
A: Going into the championship game I was excited personally because I had faith in my team that we would pull through. Even through all the fatigue throughout the tournament I knew each and every one of the players would give it their all.
Q: How much fun was it winning it all, and what is your best moment of the championship game?
A: Winning it all was the best feeling ever. Doing what I love with the people I also love is a great feeling already but especially in a big game like this it just amplified the feeling.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a member of the team?
A: My favorite part of being the team is being part of a big family. With all my teammates, parents, and coaches I always feel a welcomed with my team no matter where we are and what we are doing.
Q: What set your team apart from all the other teams across the country you competed against?
A: I feel like every team across the country put in the work in practice and individually but what set us apart was the fact that we all wanted it. We all had that on goal in mind and it was to be National Champions.
