EDINBURG — We had caught up with Diego Deleon who recently helped area soccer team United 956 to the US Soccer Club’s 2024 National Championship. Here is what he had to say about his recent success on the field.

Q: When did you know you wanted to play soccer, and how hard did work you to get to the level you are at now?
A: Since I was 3 years old i loved the game and i have practice and played ever since then.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a player this season?
A: Helping my team score lots of goals that let us to win the national championship.
Q: What was it like for you traveling the country and winning it all?
A: It didn’t feel real at first then it really set in that we really won.
Q: What was your biggest challenge on the way to the championship?
A: The difference in altitude and the fact that i just had surgery on my wrist and only had 2 weeks to train after being out for 2 months.
Q: Tell us what you were feeling and thinking about heading into the championship game?
A: I was nervous because i had no idea how the teams were going to be and if we even had a chance but i was excited because i knew it would be an experience no matter what.
Q: How much fun was it winning it all, and what is your best moment of the championship game?
A: The best moment was our last goal at the end of the game that was when we realized we had so much momentum and that we were really going to take it home.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a member of the team?
A: Being a member of the team just feels like a family because of how close we are.
Q: What set your team apart from all the other teams across the country you competed against?
A: We are all so close together. We know everything about each other so all that chemistry really helps us play our beat as a team.
