EDINBURG — We had caught up with David Omar Kuri who recently helped area soccer team United 956 to the US Soccer Club’s 2024 National Championship. Here is what he had to say about his recent success on the field.

Q: When did you know you wanted to play soccer, and how hard did work you to get to the level you are at now?
A: I knew I wanted to play soccer since i was 3 years old when I joined a local team in my area. I would practice basically every day of the week to get to the level that i am now.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a player this season?
A: A memorable moment for me would be winning Nationals.
Q: What was it like for you traveling the country and winning it all?
A: It felt deserving because me and the team have been training nonstop all year to bring the trophy home.
Q:What was your biggest challenge on the way to the championship?
A: My biggest challenge on the way to the championship would be the physical endurance that you needed to play at such a high altitude in Denver.
Q: Tell us what you were feeling and thinking about heading into the championship game?
A: I was feeling a little nervous but I knew I was physically and mentally prepared because I knew we were the better team.
Q: How much fun was it winning it all, and what is your best moment of the championship game?
A: It was really fun winning it all because all your hard work and dedication finally paid off. My best moment of the Championship game is when the referee blowed the final whistle to give us the win.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a member of the team?
A: My favorite part of being a member of this team is that we all have built a great bond and many of us have known each other for many years and we feel like a family.
