Edinburg — The race for City Hall is officially underway in Edinburg, where voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to select the city’s next mayor and two commissioners. Early voting is scheduled from October 20 through October 31.

Four Candidates Enter Mayoral Race

The mayor’s seat has drawn a crowded field of four contenders: Johnny Garcia, Richard Molina, Jonathan Salinas, and Omar Ochoa. Ballot order was determined in a random draw by City Secretary Clarice Yvette Balderas on August 27.

Garcia, a former mayor pro tem, points to his prior leadership on the City Council.

Molina, who previously served as mayor, seeks a return to office with experience and name recognition.

Salinas, a political newcomer, aims to bring fresh energy and perspective to city leadership.

Ochoa, a former City Attorney, enters with the backing of outgoing Mayor Ramiro Garza and State Rep. Terry Canales, making him a frontrunner with strong institutional support.

City Commission Contests

Two City Commission seats are also on the ballot.

Place 1: Incumbent Daniel “Dan” Díaz faces challenger Smiley Martinez in what is expected to be a competitive matchup.

Place 2: Incumbent Jason De León, who also serves as mayor pro tem, is being challenged by Moisés Segovia. Eddie Badillo has also filed, creating the potential for a three-way race.
