Garza sworn in as next Mayor of Edinburg, Diaz, De Leon council members

EDINBURG — Ramiro Garza Jr. was sworn in as the new mayor of the city, while Daniel “Dan” Diaz and Jason De Leon were sworn in as council members for Places 1 and 2, respectively.

The swearing in ceremony was held Monday, December 20, at the City Hall Courtyard.

After defeating current Mayor Richard Molina in the city’s runoff election on Tuesday, former Edinburg City Manager Ramiro Garza Jr. will now serve as mayor.

Garza received 4,898 votes, or 52 percent of the vote, compared to 4,431 votes, or 47 percent, for Molina. The findings are provisional until the Edinburg City Council certifies them.
