EDINBURG – A highly anticipated Edinburg Municipal Election Debate among candidates for mayor and city commission is set to take place September 25, at The Citrus Live. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. offering voters a rare opportunity to hear directly from those seeking to shape the city’s future.

The event, originally conceived as an online Zoom debate hosted by a local podcaster and Documentary Filmmaker Joshua Moroles, quickly grew into a larger collaboration with community partners, including. Moroles said their goal is to bring transparency to the campaign process and provide residents with clear answers about where each candidate stands on issues facing Edinburg.

“I’ve always been a proponent of transparency,” Moroles said. “This is specifically for the Edinburg community. You kind of want to know what the candidates stand for, and that’s why we’re putting them all in one room to share their vision, their ideas, and their goals.”

According to Moroles, most of the candidates have confirmed their participation, but not all. Mayoral candidates Richard Molina and Jonathan Salinas have declined.

He said City Council candidates for place 1 and 2 have confirmed.

Despite the absences, the debate is moving forward, and residents can expect a lively exchange of ideas from the candidates who did commit. The discussion is expected to cover key issues, policies, and priorities shaping Edinburg’s future.
