DENNEY NAMED CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Edinburg, Texas –  The Southland Conference announced on  that graduate student running back Nathan Denney of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) football team is the week 2 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

While leading UTRGV to a 27-21 victory at Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Denney finished with 104 yards on 24 rushes, an average of 4.3 yards per carry. Denney scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:21 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run. He also rushed for 53 yards on nine carries in the first quarter to help the Vaqueros build a 17-0 lead. Denney is the first 100-yard rusher in program history.

Denney ranks 57th in FCS and fourth in the Southland in rushing yards per carry (4.19), 67th in FCS and fourth in the Southland in rushing yards per game (56.5), 70th in FCS and fifth in the Southland in rushing yards (113), 89th in FCS and third in the Southland in all-purpose yards per game (87), and 108th in FCS and 10th in the Southland in receptions per game (3.5).

The Vaqueros play their next two games at home, starting with a contest against Langston on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium.
