UTRGV Warns Fans of Fraudulent Ticket Sales Ahead of Inaugural Football Game
RIO GRANDE VALLEY — With excitement building for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s first-ever football game on Aug. 30, UTRGV Athletics is cautioning fans about overpriced and potentially fraudulent tickets circulating on secondary markets.
Officials said they are aware of tickets being listed online for inflated prices, including “standing room only” spots that have not yet been released for sale. Standing room only tickets will officially go on sale Friday, Aug. 29, at 8 a.m. through UTRGVTickets.com, priced at $15 each. A limited number will also be provided to media outlets for on-air giveaways.
UTRGV Athletics urged fans not to purchase alleged standing room only tickets currently available on resale sites, warning that these are likely fraudulent. They also encouraged ticket holders to protect their digital tickets by avoiding the sharing of barcodes or screenshots.
While season ticket holders are free to resell their seats, UTRGV noted it has no control over prices set on secondary markets, which in some cases are well above face value. Season ticket packages for the seven-game home slate originally ranged from $75 to $350, with midfield seats at the higher end.
Single-game tickets for the inaugural season will only be available through UTRGV’s official ticketing partner, Showpass, at UTRGVTickets.com. Prices are set at:
- $50 (Sections 105–107)
- $35 (Sections 103–104, 108–109, 116–118)
- $25 (Sections 101–102, 110–111)
- $20 (Sections 113–115, 119–127)
- $15 (Standing Room Only)
UTRGV Athletics thanked the community for its overwhelming support and excitement as Division I football kicks off in the Rio Grande Valley.
