EDINBURG — We had caught up with Nikolai Dajlala who recently helped area soccer team United 956 to the US Soccer Club’s 2024 National Championship. Here is what he had to say about his recent success on the field.

Q: When did you know you wanted to play soccer, and how hard did work you to get to the level you are at now?
A: I started soccer when I was three years old, and ever since I was a kid I always knew this is what I wanted to do. I’ve worked extremely hard for 10+ years to get to this level of play.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a player this season?
A: The most memorable moment as a player this season is when I got to lift the national championship trophy as the team captain.
Q: What was it like for you traveling the country and winning it all?
A: The experience was truly incredible. Our team became extremely unified, and this experience has developed friendships that will last a lifetime.
Q: What was your biggest challenge on the way to the championship?
A: I think overcoming the difference in altitude was our biggest challenge.
Q: Tell us what you were feeling and thinking about heading into the championship game?
A: We had a winning mentality as soon as we got to the park. We knew that both teams were tired, and it was going to come down to who wanted it more.
Q: How much fun was it winning it all, and what is your best moment of the championship game?
A: It was a blast not just winning it all, but the journey to get there. The best moment of the championship game is after the final whistle blew and the celebration began.
Q: What is your favorite part of being a member of the team?
A: My favorite part about this team is that we are not only teammates on the field, but friends off of it.
Q: What set your team apart from all the other teams across the country you competed against?
A: This team is composed of high quality players and everybody on the team played their role to achieve this accomplishment.
