EDINBURG, Texas — The City of Edinburg teamed up with local health partners to spotlight prostate cancer awareness and prevention with a Prostate Cancer Wellness Event  held at the Edinburg ACE Center recently.

“This is a great event that the city is putting on,” said Ormar Ochoa, Edinburg mayoral candidate. “It’s raising awareness and getting very important information from physicians, survivoirs of prostate cancer and the importance for men to get screened.”

The free community event offered 100 free sceenings to men was hosted in collaboration with DHR Health, South Texas Health Systems, Hidalgo County Health, Edinburg EDC, and UTRGV Health. Attendees had access to PSA testing, blood pressure checks, and resources on men’s health.

A special highlight was a panel discussion featuring Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. and a leading urologists, focusing on the importance of early detection and regular screenings.

The event holds special meaning for Mayor Garza, who has publicly shared his own prostate cancer journey. “My journey was a lot like others. I had no symptoms, no family history, its a silent cancer.” Garza said. “You can only find out if your make your appointment and get checked. We had a great turnout and we ran out of PSA testing.”
